Overview

A homeowner in Newton Abbot approached Datel Electrical to make their property more energy-efficient and less dependent on the grid. Rising energy costs and a desire to be more sustainable motivated them to explore renewable energy options.

After a full on-site assessment, our team designed and installed a solar PV system with an integrated battery and EPS (Emergency Power Supply), giving the client clean, renewable energy during the day, stored power for night-time use, and the reassurance of backup power in the event of an outage.

Our Approach

We began by assessing the property’s roof orientation, shading, and load usage to design an efficient and tailored solar PV system. The installation included:

• A high-performance solar PV array, mounted for optimal sunlight exposure.

• A hybrid inverter to manage power distribution between the home, the grid, and the battery system.

• A lithium-ion battery storage unit equipped with an Emergency Power Supply (EPS) feature, allowing the home to continue running key circuits during a power cut.

• A full monitoring setup via the customer’s smartphone app, giving real-time insight into generation, storage, and usage.

The EPS function was configured to power essential items such as lighting, fridge/freezer, and key sockets, ensuring the homeowner would have electricity during any grid outage.

All work was carried out by our qualified engineers in line with MCS standards and BS 7671:2018 (18th Edition) wiring regulations. Once commissioned, the system was fully tested, certified, and demonstrated to the customer.

The Result

The installation now enables the homeowner to:

• Generate and use their own clean energy, significantly reducing reliance on the grid.

• Store surplus electricity to use during the evening or peak tariff times.

• Maintain essential power through the EPS system during outages.

• Track performance via a user-friendly monitoring app.

This project highlights how renewable energy solutions can be seamlessly integrated into homes, providing long-term savings, improved energy security, and a reduced carbon footprint.
