Electrical Repairs and Upgrades | Residential Property in Dartmouth

Overview

A homeowner in Dartmouth contacted us after experiencing a number of electrical issues and wanting to modernise parts of their home’s system at the same time. The property had several non-functioning ceiling lights, an unresponsive switch controlling multiple fittings, and issues with a rainwater tank pump that had shorted out.

They also wanted to install a remotely controlled hot water pump switch and timer, as well as a new external garden socket for convenience and outdoor use.

Our goal was to provide a full inspection, restore lighting safely, identify and repair any faults, and improve functionality with modern, reliable upgrades, all with minimal disruption to the household.

Our Approach

We began by testing and diagnosing the non-working sealed unit LED ceiling lights, several of which had failed due to age and internal driver faults. These were replaced with new, energy-efficient LED fittings that maintained the same look while improving reliability and brightness.

Next, our team addressed a lighting switch malfunction affecting a room with eight ceiling lights. After investigation, the issue was traced to a wiring fault within the switch line. Once repaired and re-terminated, full functionality was restored.

To improve energy efficiency and convenience, we supplied and installed a remotely controlled hot water pump switch and timer, allowing the client to activate and schedule their pump without manual intervention, helping reduce energy consumption when hot water wasn’t needed.

The short circuit in the rainwater tank and pump system was identified and safely isolated, with repairs carried out to ensure the equipment was protected against moisture and operating correctly.

Finally, we installed a weatherproof external socket in the ground floor garden area. The outlet was positioned and cabled to blend neatly with the existing exterior layout, providing safe outdoor power for garden tools and lighting.

All works were completed in line with BS 7671:2018 wiring regulations and fully tested before handover.

The Result

The homeowner now benefits from a safer, more efficient, and modernised electrical system. Lighting and switching issues were resolved, outdoor access to power was improved, and the new remote hot water control gives greater flexibility and energy savings.

This project is a great example of how smaller domestic upgrades, from replacing LEDs to adding smart controls, can significantly improve both safety and day-to-day convenience.
