From Spares to Sensory Play | Datel Electrical Supports a Local Dawlish School

At Datel Electrical, we believe that even the smallest things can make a big difference, especially when it comes to supporting our local community and reducing waste. That’s why we’re proud to share a new initiative: donating our spare and recycled electrical parts to a local school in Dawlish for their sensory learning project.

Giving Materials a Second Life

Rather than letting used or surplus electrical components go to waste, our team has been carefully sorting and donating items such as switches, cables, sockets, and fittings that are safe and suitable for hands-on use.

The school’s plan is to repurpose these materials into interactive sensory boards, creative panels that help children explore textures, sounds, and movement through play. These boards provide a valuable learning experience for pupils, especially those with additional needs or sensory processing differences, helping to improve coordination, curiosity, and focus in a safe, engaging way.

Supporting Education and the Environment

This project is part of our wider commitment to corporate social responsibility,  giving back to the communities we serve while minimising our environmental footprint.

By donating materials instead of sending them to landfill, we’re not only supporting creative education but also promoting reuse and sustainability. It’s a small act that reflects our belief that no waste should go to waste and that even leftover parts can help spark imagination and learning.

We’re incredibly proud to see how the school is transforming these materials into something meaningful. It’s a great example of what can happen when local businesses and educators work together for a shared goal: helping children grow, explore, and develop in fun and innovative ways.

This isn’t a one-off initiative either, we’re always looking for ways to reuse, recycle, and reinvest in our community.
