EV Charger Grants are Changing

If you’ve been considering installing an electric vehicle charger at home or at your workplace, now is the time to act.

The Office for Zero Emission Vehicles, OZEV, has confirmed that the 2026 to 2027 financial year will be the final year of the current EV charge point grant schemes. Several grants are closing completely, and key deadlines are fast approaching.

If you are thinking about applying, delaying could mean missing out.

Key Deadlines You Need to Know

Three grant schemes will close completely on 31 March 2026. This is the final date customers can apply.

For those grants:

  • Installers must submit claims by 26 May 2026
  • Any requested resubmissions must be completed by 6 July 2026

After these dates, funding will no longer be available under those schemes.

The government has stated that it reserves the right to end or change grants at any time, although they aim to provide four weeks’ notice. Claims made before any public announcement will be honoured, subject to meeting the criteria.

Put simply, if you are considering an EV charger and qualify for a grant, booking sooner rather than later is the safest option.

Which Grants Are Continuing?

The following grants are extended until 31 March 2027:

  • Flats and Renters grant
  • Residential Landlord charge point grant
  • Households with On-Street Parking grant
  • Workplace Charging Scheme
  • Workplace Charging Scheme for State-Funded Education Institutions

However, changes to grant rates are coming into effect from 1 April.

Grant Rates Are Increasing, But Timing Matters

From 1 April, the maximum grant rate for most continuing schemes will increase from £350 to £500 per socket.

This is good news for eligible homeowners, landlords and businesses.

However, there are important conditions:

  • For most home grants, the application date determines the rate
  • For the Workplace Charging Scheme, the rate is linked to the installation date

Installations completed before 1 April are eligible for up to £350 per socket. Installations completed after 1 April may qualify for up to £500 per socket.

This means planning and timing are crucial. Every project needs to be scheduled correctly to ensure you receive the right level of funding.

Why Booking Early Matters

There are three key reasons to act now:

  1. Avoid Missing the March 2026 Deadline
Some grants will not continue beyond this date.
  2. Allow Time for Applications and Approval
Charge points must not be installed until the customer has been notified that they are eligible for a grant.
  3. Secure Installation Capacity
As deadlines approach, installer availability will become tighter.

We always recommend securing your installation slot as early as possible to avoid disappointment.
