5 Reasons To Install Outdoor Electrics This Summer

Is your garden ready for a summer of entertaining, relaxing or maintaining your garden? Do you have outdoor electrics, sockets or lights already installed? Having an outdoor socket (or two) installed can transform the way you use your garden, not just in the summer but all year round.

At Datel Electrical, our teams of domestic electricians have been installing outdoor switches and electrical solutions for customers in and around Devon and the South West for over 20 years. Seeing first-hand the wide range of benefits they bring to customers’ day to day.

1) Increased Safety When Using Electrics Outside

How many times have you been in the garden and realised you needed to plug in your speaker, lights or lawn mower and not had an outside plug?

Extension leads can help but can cause a trip or electrical hazards throughout your garden and home, hazards include:

• Short-circuiting extension leads to electrical appliances
• Circuits become overloaded – which can start electrical fires, especially if you’re using them to power high-voltage appliances
• Extension leads being draped through windows or out of doors can cause trip hazards for other home users

By installing an outdoor electrical socket, not only are you minimising these risks, but you’re also providing a safe and reliable outdoor electrical outlet for you to use. Saving you time on setting up for your chores and increasing safety for yourself and others.

Nothing easier than simply plugging in your electrical saw, lawn mower or grill and getting on with the task at hand, rather than faffing around trying to find a spare cable plug.

TOP ELECTRICAL TIP: If you’re using portable electrical appliances, it’s important to ensure the safety of these appliances by getting them PAT tested by a qualified electrician. For more information, see our blog post, ‘Local Torquay PAT testing services from Datel Electrical’. Or our case study, ‘PAT testing at Pilchard Cottage, Dawlish’.

2) Improved Security With Outdoor Lights & Security Cameras

When you opt to install outdoor electrics, you also have the option to add a range of outdoor lights, motion detection and hard-wired security cameras for your home.

Installing outdoor lighting in your home and garden comes with a wide range of benefits, including:

• Increased security – having automatic or motion sensor lights can help to deter any anti-social behaviour near your home
• Hard-wired security cameras – keep an eye on your home whilst you’re away, with external hard-wired security cameras
• Welcome home lights – during the dark winter evenings, having outdoor lights will provide a warm and welcoming driveway and walk to your front door
• Holiday mode – if you’re on holiday or away from your home for a long period, outdoor lights can be set on an automatic timer to give the illusion that you’re home, helping to protect your home from unwanted attention or theft

3) Outdoor Entertainment

Summer is approaching and with it the promise of longer and warmer evenings. When you install outdoor electrics in your garden, you can create a fun, social atmosphere, for all occasions.

So if you’re looking to level up your date night with mood lighting, romantic playlists and al-fresco dining, or you’re throwing a vibrant garden party, your electrics will be able to cope with a wide range of demands, including:

• Firing up the electric-powered grill
Having an easy-to-reach mini fridge full of all your favourite drinks – cooled perfectly
• Aesthetically pleasing outdoor lights, such as string lights, can be installed to create ambience and mood lighting
• DJ decks, speakers and even disco lights to get that party started

No matter the occasion, with Datel Electrical’s outdoor sockets and electrics, you will have the freedom to enjoy your garden to the fullest this summer.

4) Make Garden Chores Easier

Having the outdoor electrical sockets installed in your garden can help to improve the ease with which some of your garden chores are completed.

1. Need some logs cut for your fireplace? Easily power up your electric saw with your outdoor sockets.
2. Want to mow the lawn? Don’t worry about faffing about with extension leads, plug your lawn mower into your new outdoor plug socket and get that lawn looking fresh in no time!
3. Want to complete some gardening or maintenance tasks late into the evening? Outdoor sockets allow you to light up your space with outdoor lighting.

With outdoor sockets, you can complete all of your chores without needing to use extension leads from your home.

5) Make The Most Of Your Garden

Installing outdoor sockets in your garden can help turn your outdoors into an entertaining space for all types of entertainment. Here are just a few additional ideas that you could utilise your outdoor electrics with:
