Domestic Electrical Services

Electric Heating

Traditionally, domestic central heating created and distributes heat with a gas-fired boiler and radiator. At Datel Electrical, we offer fast and efficient electric heating solutions tailored to your needs, which are more efficient in energy usage and overall costs.

Did you know, almost 30% of the UK’s total greenhouse gas emissions come from domestic heating, according to a recent study? Our range of electric heating alternatives can help you save energy and heat your home, in a carbon-efficient way.

What is Electrical Central Heating?

Electric heating refers to any system which uses electricity rather than gas as an energy source to heat your home, office or commercial space. These include, night storage heaters, heat pumps and electric boilers.

Electricity, unlike gas, can be sourced in an eco-friendly and sustainable way, using solar panels, wind power or hydroelectricity. Electric heating works in the same way as gas boilers and heaters work, but instead of generating its power using gas, it uses electricity.

To install your new electric heating system, Datel Electrical’s team of qualified Devon electricians will simply plug in or in some cases, wire in your new electric heating system. Which will then begin to heat your home without needing a gas-fired boiler.

“Electric central heating can offer amazing savings over traditional central heating.”

Dimplex® Night Storage Heaters

As approved Dimplex® installers, we can offer a cost-effective, low-energy substitute for gas heating.

Dimplex® night storage heaters are an alternative heating solution to traditional central heating, radiators and modern underfloor heating. Night storage heaters store heat, which is generated overnight with cheap electricity. The heat is then released during the day.

Most night storage heaters are wall mounted and look similar to standard radiators. However, unlike radiators, night-store heaters will ‘bank’ the heat in ceramic or clay bricks, which will then be released through your night-storage vents the next day.

Electric Central Heating

Gas central heating can be difficult to organise and run and can leave your home cold at all the wrong moments. Electric central heating uses smart electric radiators, to configure when the cheapest time to take electricity as well as heat it all gently to a predetermined heat.

Frequently Asked Questions

From 15 to 30 years, depending on various factors such as the quality of the installation, regular maintenance, and usage patterns.

Systems that are well-maintained and used appropriately can last on the longer end of this spectrum, while those subjected to heavy use or lacking proper care may need replacement sooner.

Electric heating systems are generally considered to be highly energy-efficient, with the potential to convert nearly all the electricity they consume into heat. Unlike traditional gas heating systems, which can lose energy through flues and exhausts, electric heaters provide direct heating, ensuring that almost every unit of energy is used to warm your home.

Modern electric heating solutions, such as underfloor heating and electric radiators, often come with smart technology features that allow for precise temperature control and scheduling, helping to minimise energy waste.

Electric heating offers several advantages over traditional heating methods, making it an increasingly popular choice for homeowners, including:

  • Energy efficiency; electric heating systems convert nearly all the electricity they consume into heat, ensuring minimal energy waste.
  • No emissions: unlike gas or oil-based systems, electric heating produces no emissions on-site, contributing to a cleaner environment and enhancing indoor air quality.
  • Easy to install: electric heating systems are often easier to install and maintain, with no need for flues or extensive ductwork, which can reduce installation costs and complexity.
  • More control: temperature control and zoning, enabling users to heat specific areas of their homes as needed, ultimately leading to greater energy savings.
