Datel Electrical’s Dawlish electricians, recently completed PAT testing services at Pilchard Cottage, Dawlish to ensure that the self-catered holiday home was up-to-date on all of its electrical safety requirements.
The Devon-based holiday home wanted a local and highly-rated commercial electrician to visit the property and ensure everything was safe and ‘signed off’ for any future guest(s). At Datel Electrical, we pride ourselves on always offering the highest level of customer service and ensuring all electrical jobs, no matter how big or small are completed to a high standard.
Nick Cocking, Datel Electrical’s resident PAT tester popped by the seaside cottage to inspect all appliances, from the kettle and microwave to the iron, TV and hairdryer to ensure they were safe to use. The PAT test was completed in two phases, the visual inspection followed by the physical PAT test:
Visual inspection – Nick first checked all of the appliances for any exposed or frayed wires, as well as any damage to the plug, cable or device.
PAT test – Once the item has passed the visual inspection, Nick then used the official PAT tester to check the appliance for earth continuity, lead polarity and insulation resistance.
Once the items had been thoroughly tested, they were marked as ‘passed’ with a pass PAT test sticker on the device plug and a certificate was presented to the business owners. This now indicates the appliances are safe to use, as well as the due date for the next PAT test.
As a rental property, it is recommended all portable appliances are checked annually. Therefore, Nick will be back to visit Pilchard Cottage in a year to re-test.
It was a pleasure to complete Dan and Letty’s PAT testing requirements for their beautiful new self-catered cottage. Nick particularly enjoyed the anecdotes around the photos of the elephant in the sea at Dawlish from the 1920s, when a travelling circus visited the seaside town. Although, was upset to hear that the circus was banned a few years later due to an escaped lion who roamed the streets of Dawlish during the last visit.
Pilchard Cottage is tucked away in the heart of the quaint seaside town of Dawlish and is a renovated 220-year-old Georgian Cob Cottage full of quirks, charm, and home comforts. The cottage is ideal for two couples or a family and was built by The Lord of the Manor at the turn of the 19th century for the local fishermen and their families to reside.
Datel Electrical treat every electrical job with equal importance.
