Overview

We were contacted by a homeowner in Truro who wanted to improve their property’s energy efficiency and upgrade their heating and hot water systems ahead of the colder months. While their immersion heater was still working, it lacked a timer control, and their ageing night storage heaters were no longer reliable or efficient.

They were looking for modern, cost-effective solutions that would work well with their off-peak electricity tariff — without the need for a full heating system replacement.

Our Approach

Part 1: Immersion Timeclock Upgrade
We began by inspecting the existing immersion heater setup. It was operating manually and consuming more energy than needed. To improve control and efficiency, we:

• Extended and altered the existing immersion circuit
• Installed a user-friendly programmable timeclock
• Rewired safely and discreetly, with minimal disruption
• Fully tested and demonstrated the new setup to the homeowner

This now allows the client to heat their water on a schedule, saving on energy costs and reducing waste.

Part 2: Dimplex Quantum Heater Installation
Next, we removed the outdated storage heaters and supplied and installed Dimplex Quantum high heat retention storage heaters — a major upgrade in both performance and control. These smart heaters:

• Store low-cost, off-peak energy
• Release heat only when needed, based on daily routines
• Offer improved comfort and efficiency with built-in thermostats and programmable settings

We installed multiple units throughout the home, configured each to suit the room layout, and provided a full handover to ensure the client could easily manage the new system.
