Emergency Lighting Installation for Residential Care Home in Tiverton

Overview

Datel Electrical was asked to install and upgrade emergency lighting throughout a busy residential care facility in Tiverton. With a mix of internal and external access points, the goal was to improve visibility in key areas during a power cut and ensure safe evacuation routes for residents and staff.

The client needed lighting installed across various areas of the site, including entrances, exit routes, and service areas. Some existing systems were already in place, and we were brought in to expand and improve on this to meet full safety compliance.

Our Approach

We started at the main entrance, installing new emergency lighting above the front door and patio doors to clearly light up access points. On the opposite side, we added further lighting to the manager’s office doorway, both inside and outside, for safe movement in and out of the building in low light.

At the rear of the property, we upgraded the lighting near the laundry room. This included new indoor and outdoor emergency lights, along with improvements to switching and wiring to ensure everything would work correctly in an emergency. We also replaced an existing floodlight near the grassed area with a more efficient and reliable emergency light.

We finished the job by installing additional lighting at the exit corridors to the front and rear of the building, giving full coverage along all external walkways and exit points. The system was connected to existing key switches, making it easy for the site team to test and maintain the lighting as needed.

The Result

The new emergency lighting system now provides safe, consistent coverage across all the key areas of the site. The facility team can now easily test the system and have peace of mind knowing that, in the event of a power outage, the building is clearly and safely lit throughout.

This was a carefully planned and neatly delivered project, completed with minimal disruption to residents and staff. We were pleased to hand the full system over to the maintenance team, including all login details and controls, ready to go.
